Personal Statement I was saved through the mercy ministry of Northside Chapel CRC in inner-city Paterson, New Jersey. I learned then and believe that "I am not my own, but belong body and soul, in life and in death to my faithful Savior Jesus Christ. Because I belong to him, Christ, by his Holy Spirit, assures me of eternal life and makes me wholeheartedly willing and ready from now on to live for him."

Quote of The Day
"Mercy is not an option or even an addition to being a Christian. Instead, a life poured out in deeds of mercy is the inevitable sign of a life which has experienced the grace of God" (Tim Keller in Training for Deacons).

Merciful Living
"Seek the welfare (shalom) of the city", said God through Jeremiah to the Hebrews of Babylon. The people were not to escape the city or sit in sullen rebellion. They must build houses, plant gardens, marry, and beget children. Their population was to increase, not decrease. Their role was to be salvatory.... As God's people they were to seek in every way the city's welfare, its shalom, in the fullest sense. Prayer to Jehovah on behalf of the city was to be the most profound expression of the people's attitude. In the welfare of Babylon, Israel would find its own well being". (Roger S. Greenway in Apostles to the City)
Transformed attitudes and behavior are the inner and outer dimensions of conversion. Behavioral changes will be oriented toward changing ourselves and working with others to change the world in which we live. Remembering that Jesus spoke rather harshly of those who worry about the faults of others before tending to their own (Matthew 7:3-5), we would do well to look first at changing our own behavior.
G.K.Chesterton:
"Christianity has not so much been tried and found wanting, as it has been found difficult and left untried".
Pray for RH who is no longer homeless! Praise God that he is now attending Fellowship Bible Study and listening to bible teaching by Boice and Barnhouse on the radio. Thank God that he read his bible and is reading a Barnhouse commentary.
Pray for RA who comes to see me frequently and seems to be saying the right things about his relationship with Christ, but there's something about him that I don't trust. He is manipulative for sure. Pray that God would transform him more into Christ's likeness. Pray that my attitude would reflect the gentleness and meekness of Christ.
ACTS has always been a "faith ministry"
ACTS is not part of any church budget. All of our ministry to the broken and brokenhearted is sustained by the generous giving of private donors. From the beginning it has been our desire that the people of God serve this mercy ministry by freely giving their time, gifts, talents, and finances.

ACTS is an outreach of approximately 300 volunteer staff to homeless persons, people with AIDS, at-risk children, single parents, separated and divorced, nursing home residents, incarcerated persons and people with special needs--people who ordinarily aren't welcomed in our churches. ACTS seeks to make Tenth Church a safe place for these neighbors of ours to come in, learn about salvation in Christ, worship him, and be served. For a thorough look at the ministry, click here.
| What Acts Ministry Can Do For You |
ACTS Ministries serves others churches by providing a place for their members to learn and serve. Approximately thirty percent of our volunteer staff are members of other churches. All that is required is a Christian testimony and lifestyle.
For twenty-five years ACTS has been an urban laboratory that has produced reproducible ministry models. We can assist you in developing your own ministries (assessing how best to serve) and we can train your volunteer ministry staff. We also do deacon training. You don't have to reinvent the wheel. Learn to work smarter and more effectively by contacting us at 215-735-7688 or dapple@tenth.org.
The Gospel and the Poor: Keller "In the Bible, the word poor includes the weak, the elderly, the mentally and physically handicapped, the refugees, the new immigrants, the working poor, the natural disaster victims, the unemployed, the single-parent families, and the orphans." -- Dr. Tim Keller in A Case for Compassion. See the video and download the outline at http://hereslife.ning.com/page/case-for-compassion
ACTS Recognized as Model ACTS Ministries was recognized by The Leadership Network for its work. The report describes the development of ACTS and discusses lessons learned regarding lay/leadership collaboration, training, and keeping outreach-ministry "owned" by lay people (rather than being staff driven).
